CBS Expands Digital Arm, Buys Clicker

Looking to deepen its TV informational efforts, CBS has agreed to acquire Clicker Media, which owns clicker.com, a digital guide for video entertainment. At the same time, CBS named Jim Lanzone co-founder and chief executive officer of Clicker Media, to become the new president of CBS Interactive -- replacing outgoing chief Neil Ashe.

Clicker can tap into specific information, such as where to find some 1 million online TV shows, movies and videos. The acquisition looks to build on CBS' existing digital effort, TV.com, which airs CBS shows and is a resource for TV and entertainment information.

Clicker started up in November 2009 and currently has 2.5 million monthly users. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Les Moonves, president and chief executive officer of CBS Corp., stated: "In these last couple of years, we've grown CBS into a top 10 global Internet property. I'm confident that with Jim at the helm, we will continue to expand our digital footprint and capitalize on our scale in this fast-growing marketplace."

Before Clicker Media, Lanzone was chief executive officer of Ask.com, formerly Ask Jeeves.

In addition to TV.com, CBS Interactive businesses include CNET.com, CBS.com, CBSSports.com, CBSNews.com and Gamespot.com. CBS announced late last year that Ashe, who joined in 2008, would be leaving the company.
