Redbox Launches Game Rental

Redbox, which helped upend the model of the movie rental industry, is looking to do the same for gaming. Last week, the company began offering video games in 21,000 (out of a total 27,000) of its vending machines around the U.S. The games go for $2 for a 24-hour period, about double the cost of its DVD rental rate. According to PC Magazine, the company found (after a two-year test in 5,000 machines) that kiosks offering games along with the movie rentals had revenues that were 10-15% higher than those renting movies alone.--Aaron Baar
