A new ratings system developed by Bluefin Labs measures how viewers respond to television, reports
Lost Remote. Affiliated with the MIT Media Lab, Bluefin says it mapped the "TV genome" to come
up with a new set of metrics it calls Response Level and Response Share. Response level is "the number of commenters for any given episode of a show," based on a 10-point exponential scale. Response
share is the percentage of a program's share of social response within a specific daypart, which roughly maps to the traditional Nielsen "share" metric. In addition, the company is introducing Bluefin
Signals, a Web-based analytics product that helps marketers and buyers to break down the numbers beyond response level and share for 3,000 distinct shows with 105,000 individual airings.
