Buick Sponsors OUT100 For Second Year

  • November 9, 2011

Buick has partnered with Here Media and OUT for the second year in a row to become the presenting sponsor of the OUT100.
The program comprises print and online versions as well as its annual event to be held in New York City on Nov. 17.

Buick will sponsor the 2011 Buick OUT100 Humanitarian Award, which goes to Daniel Hernandez, the intern who is credited with saving the life of U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords this past January. Hernandez, a student at the University of Arizona, who had been Giffords’ intern for only five days, administered CPR after the shooting that resulted in six deaths and nearly took Gifford's life. Hernandez's quick thinking may have saved her life.

Hernandez is featured as one of the OUT100. “We need to celebrate the victories that we’ve had, but also realize that there’s still a lot of work to be done," said Hernandez, “and not everything’s going to be done overnight.”

The Buick OUT100 Humanitarian Award will be presented by Craig Bierley, Buick advertising director, and Hudson Taylor, founder of Athlete Ally and Division I college wrestling coach at Columbia University. Athlete Ally is a sports resource that encourages all individuals involved in sports to respect every member of their communities, regardless of perceived or actual sexual orientation or gender identity or expression, and to lead others in doing the same.  Taylor is also the subject of the “Buick Human Highlight Reel,” which focuses on NCAA student-athletes.
