Skyy Spirits Changes Name to Campari America

  • January 11, 2012

Starting this month, Skyy Spirits, the wholly-owned subsidiary of Davide Campari-Milano S.p.A., will change its public identity in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico to Campari America.

The change "simultaneously aligns the company more closely with its Milan-headquartered parent corporation and its affiliates, collectively known as Gruppo Campari, and better reflects the full scale of San Francisco-based Campari America’s growing spirits portfolio," according to the announcement.

Gerry Ruvo, chairman and CEO of the newly rechristened Campari America, noted that the subsidary's portfolio has grown in recent years to include vodkas, rums, whiskies, tequilas, cordials and liqueurs, but its former name meant that the company tended to be associated only with the Skyy Vodka brand.

Gruppo Campari acquired Skyy Spirits, LLC in 2002 and the Wild Turkey brand and distillery in 2009. Its CEO, Bob Kunze-Concewitz, says that the North American market is an important opportunity for growth both for U.S.-produced vodkas, tequilas and whiskies and Gruppo Campari's top-performing brands from other countries, such as Campari and Glen Grant Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

Gruppo Campari, the world's sixth-largest premium spirits company, has more than 45 brands distributed in more than 190 countries.
