Union Bank Awards PHD Media Duties
Omnicom’s PHD has been selected to handle the media assignment for Union Bank after an integrated review in which creative duties were also up for grabs.
The San Francisco-based bank selected creative shop Eleven as its global agency of record in a review that was managed by search consultant Select Resources International. Eleven, an independent, is also based in San Francisco.
The incumbent on the business was Dentsu.
The client indicated that Eleven’s task will include the creation of all worldwide advertising and marketing communications for Union Bank, including traditional campaigns for broadcast, print and radio, as well as interactive campaigns for digital, social and mobile platforms. PHD will serve as Eleven’s media partner on behalf of the client.
Union Bank indicated that new advertising initiatives are expected to debut in the second quarter of 2012.
For PHD, the award is one of several recent wins. Earlier this month. it won the media assignment for cloud computing and virtual technology developer VMware. That win followed recent awards from both Hyatt hotels (global digital media duties) and mobile phone giant Sony Ericsson (global media assignment).
Union Bank is a full-service commercial bank with over 400 branches in California, Washington, Oregon and Texas, and several international markets. It is a subsidiary of San Francisco-based UnionBanCal Corp. The latter is a financial holding company with assets of about $84 billion. It, in turn, is a subsidiary of Japanese banking interests.
