Oscar Advertisers Include Movie Studios, MetLife

Oscar-appAt least seven companies that spent heavily to advertise in the Super Bowl will also air pricey spots in the Academy Awards later this month. Included on the list are two movie marketers and a beer company promoting a more niche brand.

Walt Disney, which backed Marvel’s “The Avengers” and “John Carter” in the big game Feb. 5, will have a presence in ABC’s Oscar telecast Feb. 26. So will Paramount, which promoted “G.I. Joe: Retaliation."

It’s unclear whether each studio will market the same films, although “The Avengers” and “G.I. Joe” may not be candidates, since the Oscars usually attract a lot of female viewers.

Both Disney and Paramount were in the Oscar-cast last year. Anheuser-Busch, which annually runs a load of Super Bowl spots, will back Stella Artois in the Oscars.

MetLife, which used the Super Bowl to roll out a new campaign, will also be in the Oscars -- as will Coke, Samsung and Hyundai, which were in the NBC telecast that set a viewership record on Feb. 5.

Returning Oscar advertisers include AT&T, JCPenney, Coke and Sprint. Other listed advertisers include Kraft and Travelocity.

The cost of an Oscar spot is in the $1.7 million range.
