Comcast Rolls Out X1

  • May 21, 2012

Comcast will begin rolling out its cloud-enabled X1 Platform and new X1 remote control app for tablets and smartphones this year.

The new platform uses cloud servers on Comcast’s network to integrate interactive, customized apps and social media within the traditional video services. The new platform, showcased this week at NCTA’s Cable Show 2012, includes a new user interface, unified search and instant play, as well as specially tailored-for-TV social networking and music, radio, sports and traffic apps.

In addition, a new X1 Remote Control app allows consumers to use the same motion and gesture controls that they use on their smartphones to control their TVs (for instance, swiping to get through pages of information, and shaking it to pause On Demand content).

The service, which has been testing in Augusta, Ga., will first be offered in Boston before rolling out to other markets across the country.
