Mag Bag: 'Dwell,' 'New York' Join Forces For Design Festival

Dwell-NY-Mag-ADwell, New York Join Forces For Design Festival

New York City has all the other weeks-- Fashion Week, Advertising Week, Internet Week -- so why not a design week? That seems to be the idea behind the partnership between Dwell and New York, which includes a week-long design festival celebrating New York scheduled for October 1-7.

The Dwell-New York design festival is part of a larger project to highlight architecture and design, with the American Institute of Architects declaring October “Archtober.” Festival events will include home tours in Manhattan and Brooklyn on the weekend of October 5, talks and other educational opportunities.

The magazines’ editorial staffs, led by Dwell’s Amanda Dameron and New York’s Wendy Goodman, are producing an as-yet-unnamed co-branded publication in honor of the festival, including designer profiles, unique projects, sneak peeks of the home tours and a festival guide. This special, co-branded issue will be sent to 150,000 subscribers of both magazines, polybagged with Dwell’s October issue and New York’s Sept. 24 issue. Advertising and sponsorships will be sold by both organizations; Grohe is already on board as official sponsor.

The New York events are part of a long-planned bicoastal expansion for Dwell, which hosts "Dwell on Design" in Los Angeles each June. It’s also a logical expansion for New York, which recently launched a stand-alone magazine devote to architecture and design, New York Design Hunting.
