New York City residents' perceptions about major soda brands, as measured by YouGov BrandIndex's Buzz score, dropped from +8 on May 31 (the day news of NYC's proposal to ban sales of sugar-sweetened drinks larger than 16 ounces of within the city) to -10 the day after.
New York City-area Buzz perceptions of non-soda sweetened beverage brands declined slightly during the same period, from +5 to +4.
Nationally, soda-brand perception has trended downward a bit since the news broke, but the trend is not statistically significant, reports BrandIndex.
