Report: China's Online Olympics Audience Sets Record

A whopping 485 million users watched CNTV’s coverage of the 2012 London Olympics via PCs, mobile and connected devices, according to data that China’s state broadcaster shared with GigaOm.

CNTV served an even more impressive 610 million streams to mobile phones, tablets and connected devices, which was facilitated by U.S. streaming platform provider Neulion.

CNTV’s Web site registered 580 million page views and around 35 million uniques per day on average during the games. Page views were 255 percent higher than daily averages before the games, and uniques were up 134 percent. At its peak, CNTV recorded 880 million daily page views and 40 million uniques, which the report said is a historical record for the broadcaster.

By comparison, NBC recorded 159 million streams during the Olympics across devices, and NBCOlympics.com recorded close to two billion page views for the entire event, according to the broadcaster.
