2012 OMMA Awards Finalist: Online Advertising Creativity Viral Campaign, Nickelodeon, Nickelodeon's "The Legend of Korra"

Korra

At the conclusion of Nickelodeon’s series "Avatar: The Last Airbender" in 2008, Avatar fans were a formative group across the web and vocal about their love for the show. In winter 2011, plans for the next iteration of "Avatar" were cemented with the spinoff "Legend of Korra". To leverage "Avatar" fan excitement for the new series. Nickelodeon launched “Korra Nation,” a fan club on Tumblr providing first access to new content. Members were alerted of new content via email and were able to earn points for sharing the content on social networks. Points acquired earned fans prizes -- like a trip to meet the creators at Comic-Con. Less than 24 hours after Korra Nation launched, the club had 10K members and to date, membership exceeds 80K.  Fans were also challenged to drive 100K new likes, shares and tweets; the reward would be the unlocking of the first two episodes on KorraNation.com weeks before its on-air premiere date. Fans successfully reached the goal. Without paid advertising the site had 417K unique visitors and gained over 130K likes on Facebook.
