Online 'Involvement' Propels TV Show Ratings

The-Mindy-ProjectLooking for the real new TV show winners this season? Look no farther than judging "involvement."

General Sentiment, a social media researcher, took a reading of the first couple of weeks of the new season -- for those shows that premiere and those to come. Fox's "The Mindy Project" received top marks with a 6.3 score. ABC's "The Last Resort" tallied a 6.2 number, and CBS' "Vegas" was at a 5.9. All these shows improved week-to-week by 24%, 29%, and 10%, respectively.

The company says "involvement" measures online discussion, the tone of the discussion (positive or negative), and the sources of that discussion. For example, those sources include news sites, social and Twitter.

Other big improvers week-to-week include Fox's "Ben & Kate," which grew 46% to a 5.8 number, good for fifth place overall.

Two CBS dramas also gained big: "Elementary" was up 56% to a 5.6, in 10th place and "Made In Jersey" rose 60% to a 5.3 to land in 12th place.

A few shows took a tumble, including NBC's high-rated "Revolution," which earned a 3.8, down 11% for 15th place. Fox's "The Mob Doctor slipped 8% to a 5.3 (11th place).

Three shows yet to debut are also trending down: CW's "Beauty and the Beast" was down 8% to a 3.3 score (15th place); ABC's "Malibu Country" was down 7.1% to a 3.2 (16th place); and CW's "Arrow" was off 4% to a 2.5 score (17th place).
