Smartphones are everywhere, but that doesn't mean we're in the "year of mobile," David Payne, chief digital officer of Gannett, said during a keynote at OMMA Premium Display. Instead, he says, we're in the year of the cat -- or more precisely, the year of petting the cat. "Really," he says, it's the "year of touch."
How so? As touchscreen devices grow in popularity, Web companies need to rethink their approaches, Payne says. For instance, "fat fingers" mean that click-through metrics aren't as meaningful as with desktops.
