TV Midseason: CBS Debuts 'Golden Boy,' 'Rules' Returns

In keeping with its relatively consistent programming strategy -- much beloved by many TV advertisers -- CBS is making few changes to its midseason lineup.
New
drama, "Golden Boy," about a young NYC police commissioner, will start Tuesday Feb. 26 before moving to its regular Friday 9 p.m. slot -- taking over the "CSI:NY" time slot after its season finale.
Perennial comedy utility "Rules of Engagement" will come back for its seventh season and will be in the 8:30 p.m. time slot on Monday -- taking over the time slot occupied by "Partners," which
started off the fall, only to be cancelled.
Another spring edition of "Survivor" will go on Feb. 13, at its now regular 8 p.m. Wednesday time slot. Longtime CBS reality-show "Amazing Race"
resumes another edition on Sunday night at 8 p.m. "Race" begins Feb. 17th.
CBS also announced that the season finale of "CSI:NY" will occur on Feb. 22, and "Vegas" will return with new
episodes on Tuesday at 10 p.m. on March 12.
Through Nov. 25, CBS was in second place among all key 18-49 viewers in the Nielsen live-plus-same-day metric at 2.8 rating, down 18% from a year
ago. NBC is in first with a 3.2 rating, up 23%. CBS is in first place in overall average prime-time viewers at 11.7 million.
But when looking at non-sports prime-time programming in
Nielsen's C3 ratings -- commercial ratings plus three days of time-shifted viewing, the TV currency for national ad deals -- CBS is a bit closer.
Here, CBS is averaging a 2.2 rating, second
to first-place ABC, which is at a 2.3. Fox and NBC are both at a 2.1.
