The Son Also Rises: Havas Chair Lays Out Succession: Yannick Bollore

Havas chairman and controlling shareholder Vincent Bollore laid out a succession plan at the holding company’s annual shareholder's meeting earlier this week. If all goes according to plan, his son Yannick, 33 -- already an executive at the company -- will soon succeed him as chairman. Bollore also indicated that another son, Cyrille, would also soon be nominated for a top position at the firm.

At the Wednesday meeting, Bollore told shareholders that proposals would be offered at the next board meeting held by Havas and the Bollore Group to appoint Yannick Bollore chairman and Cyrille Bollore an executive director at Havas.

Yannick is already part of the holding company’s senior executive team, as one of four executive directors, along with CEO David Jones, CFO Herve Philippe and Vincent Bollore. Yannick is also a vice president and board director at the holding company and chairman of content development units Havas360 and H2O Productions.

According to the company’s 2012 Annual Report, Yannick Bollore was one of the highest paid executives at the company. His total compensation last year was approximately $600,000, a nearly three-fold increase over 2011.

Up until last September, when he became an executive director of Havas, Yannick Bollore was CEO of Bollore Media, which operates national TV channels in France, as well as some publications, a polling unit and cross-channel advertising network.

Cyrille Bollore, 27, does not currently hold a position at Havas. He is now vice chairman and managing director at the Bollore Group.

Vincent Bollore and the Bollore Group have been major stockholders in Havas since 2004. The following year, Bollore waged a successful campaign to take control of the holding company, orchestrating the ouster of then CEO Alain de Pouzilhac.
