Networks Sweat Ratings, Summer Results Middling

Its midsummer and TV networks keep trying their luck with new shows -- with mediocre results.

On Thursday, NBC's “Hollywood Game Night” at 10 p.m. earned an okay Nielsen preliminary 1.3 rating/ 4 share among 18-49 viewers. That bested an original episode of ABC’s “Rookie Blue” in the same time period, which earned a 1.0/3. A CBS rerun of “Elementary” earned a 0.8/3.

Fox’s “Hell’s Kitchen” and CBS’s “Big Brother” tied for top honors in individual shows -- each with a 2.0/6 during the 9 p.m. time period. Two other original pieces of TV content -- NBC’s “The Winner is...” (1.0/3) and ABC’s “Motive” (0.8/3) -- trailed behind in the 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. hour.

A CBS rerun of “Big Bang Theory” was just a tick behind the top two shows with a 1.9/7 during the 8 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. time period. ABC’s "Wipeout," in the 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. time period, drifted to a series low with a 0.9/3.

For the night, no network made it over the 2 rating mark for key 18-49 viewers. Fox and CBS tied for first with a 1.6/5; followed by Univision at a 1.4/5, NBC with a 1.0/3, ABC at a 0.9/3 and CW with a 0.2/1.

CBS led in total average viewers with 6.0 million, followed by ABC at 4.6 million, Fox with 4.0 million, NBC at 3.8 million, Univision with 3.7 million and CW at 566,000.
