Programmatic Companies Dominate Deloitte Technology Fast 500

Deloitte has released their 2013 Technology Fast 500 list, which ranks the fastest-growing technology companies based in North America, and it is chock-full of programmatic ad technology companies.

Ad tech companies aren't just on the list -- they dominate the top 100.

Rocket Fuel sits atop the list, with an astonishing growth rate of 208,897% between 2008-2012. For comparison, the second-ranked company had a 84,171% growth rate. Not far behind Rocket Fuel is OpenX, in fifth place.

In other words, two of the five fastest-growing technology companies in the U.S. exist to automate the media trading process.

Among companies that fall under the "Software" label, data management platform (DMP) BlueKai is ranked 12th overall. Online video ad tech provider TubeMogul is ranked 35th, while Seattle-based video ad tech provider Mixpo checks in at 69th. Marin Software is ranked 83rd.

Under the "Internet" label, SpotXchange is ranked 40th overall, and PubMatic is close behind at 45th. Rubicon Project is ranked 56th, while Dstillery, formerly Media6Degrees, is ranked 58th. Joining BluaKai as the only other data management platform (DMP) in the top 100, eXelate is ranked 86th. MediaMath is also in the top 100, ranked 91st. Travel-focused ad tech company Sojern is ranked 60th.

Under the "Media/Entertainment" label, mobile ad network Millennial Media checks in at number 73 overall. BrightRoll ranks 93rd.

Deloitte ranks companies' four-year growth and requires 2012 to have been at least $5 million in operating revenues. Download the 2013 Technology Fast 500 from Deloitte here.

Editor's note: To clarify, all rankings in this post are overall rankings, not within the specific labels. For example, TubeMogul is ranked 35th overall, but within the "Software" category they are actually 12th.
