Mag Bag: Time Inc. Taps Sharethrough For More Native Ads

Real Simple and Health MagazineTime Inc. Taps Sharethrough For More Native Ads

Time Inc., which recently moved to lower the barrier between business and editorial operations by having magazine editors report to division presidents, is preparing to increase its native advertising offerings through an expanded partnership with Sharethrough.

Native ad posts from Sharethrough, which maintains a portfolio of native ads for publishers to choose from, will now appear on Web and mobile properties for Time Inc. titles Real Simple and Health, Ad Age reports. Previously, the Sharethrough placements were limited to People magazine’s digital platforms.

Time Inc. is just the latest big publisher to tap into the native advertising trend. Earlier this month, the Associated Press announced a deal to bring native advertising to its Web site, mobile site and mobile app in partnership with Polar, which operates a native advertising platform for digital publishers called MediaVoice.

Turning back to the magazine industry, the American Society of Magazine Editors (ASME) recently released updated guidelines suggesting that native advertising “should not use type fonts and graphics resembling those used for editorial content and should be visually separated from editorial content.” However, many native advertising solutions seek to do precisely that, as part of their effort to make sponsored content appear “native” to a particular site.
