More Woes For Entercom's WEEI

Let's face it -- it's been a lousy month for Entercom radio station WEEI 93.7 Boston.

Earlier this month, advertising heavyweight Dunkin' Donuts announced it was pulling its ads from Entercom stations in Worcester, Mass.; Springfield, Mass.; and Providence, R.I. over disparaging remarks allegedly made on the air by EEI morning sports-talk host Gerry Callahan about the nutritional value of donuts. Dunkin' Donuts' move was pretty harsh, considering that its contracts with EEI and Callahan had expired in January.

Now the Boston Herald is reporting that EEI's ratings continue to be far from stellar. The Herald's Gayle Fee reports that EEI ranked sixth in the critical 25-54 male demographic for the month of January. While "Dennis & Callahan" managed to finish fourth for the morning time slot, it was crushed by 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Toucher and Rich." EEI was also body-slammed by 98.5 in the prized afternoon drive-time slot.

Could a major shakeup be on the horizon? Will other big advertisers walk away? Will Callahan be vindicated by U.S. Surgeon General for his views on donuts?

Stay tuned....
