Clear Channel Forms New Major Markets Group

Clear Channel Media and Entertainment, previously known as Clear Channel Radio, is shaking up its major markets business with the formation of a new Major Markets Operating Group, the company announced late Friday.

The new group consists of four divisions led by Hartley Adkins, executive vice president, with responsibility for major markets including New York, Washington, DC, San Francisco and Seattle; Tom McConnell, executive vice president based in Boston; Kelly Kibler, senior vice president based in Dallas, with responsibility for Texas major markets; and Greg Ashlock, formerly president of Clear Channel Los Angeles, who will now expand his responsibilities as president of Clear Channel Southern California.

As part of the transition, Tom Schurr, formerly the president of operations for major markets, is leaving the company. Matt Martin will continue in his position as Clear Channel’s president of regional markets.

According to Clear Channel, the new structure will make it easier for big advertising clients to tap Clear Channel Entertainment and Media’s broadcast, digital and events channels, as well Clear Channel Outdoor’s out-of-home ad assets, for major market promotions. It should also facilitate in-house access to research, analysis and other corporate resources.

This is just the latest in a series of organizational changes and new executive appointments under the direction of CEO Bob Pittman, who took over the top spot at parent company Clear Channel Communications in October 2011.

In November 2011, CCME unveiled a new Brand Management Team, which is focused on developing on-air and digital programming content, as well as live events for Clear Channel's 850 stations, affiliated Web sites, and the iHeartRadio platform. The Brand Management Team consists of a brand manager and brand coordinator for each format, who consult with stations and advise CCR’s various senior vice presidents of programming throughout the country, sharing format-specific content and information to inform programming decisions.

In October 2013, Clear Channel Outdoor named Walker Jacobs chief revenue officer and president of sales. An in January of this year, CCME chairman and CEO John Hogan announced his intention to retire, to be replaced by Pittman sharing responsibility with Clear Channel President and Chief Financial Officer Richard Bressler.
