Discovery Launches New Form Digital Studio With Howard, Grazer

Bolstering its digital TV-content efforts, Discovery Communications has started up a digital studio for TV series and content from Hollywood producers Brian Grazer and Ron Howard.

The joint venture, called New Form, will look to offer next-generation content. It will be based on Los Angeles, headed by Kathleen Grace as its chief creative officer.

Grace had been head of creative development for YouTubeSpace LA, a TV-video facility. She was previously vice president of production and programming at Next New Networks, which was acquired by YouTube in 2011.

Discovery says New Form will partner with “key distributors and brands” with the possibility of expanded distribution across Discovery and partner platforms globally.

Stated Brian Grazer: “Technology is rapidly changing the entertainment landscape for studios, producers and audiences, and Ron and I could not think of a better partner to invest with than Discovery to expand beyond film and television and enter into the digital frontier.”

Discovery has struck other big branded-name joint ventures in recent years with Harpo Productions, Oprah Winfrey’s production company, for the Oprah Winfrey Network and with toy-maker Hasbro for kids-targeted network, The Hub.
