CBS, ABC Continue To Dominate Thursdays

The two big broadcast networks on Thursday -- CBS and ABC -- remain in their No. 1 and No. 2 positions, although at somewhat lower viewing results versus a week ago.

With its continued big “Thursday Night Football” numbers, CBS averaged a 3.6 Nielsen preliminary live program-plus-same day rating among 18-49 viewers -- down 33% from a week ago. ABC with its three Shonda Rhimes dramas also slipped, down 10% to a 2.8 average rating for the night.

NBC and Fox were pretty much at the same levels as a week ago -- each at a 1.2 18-49 rating. NBC was down 5% and Fox off 11%. CW gave back 12% to a 0.6 18-49 rating.

After CBS’ top “Thursday Night Football” at a 3.6 rating. ABC’s new “How To Get Away With Murder” earned a 3.1 rating; ABC’s “Scandal” scored a 3 number; and ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy” posted a still-decent 2.4 rating.

NBC’s best came from new comedy “Bad Judge” at 9 p.m. with a 1.3 rating; “Parenthood” at 10 p.m. also earned a 1.3. NBC’s other new comedy “A to Z” brought up the rear with a 1.0 rating.

Fox continues to struggle with its new drama “Gracepoint,” losing another three-tenths of a rating point to a worrisome 0.9 rating. Earlier in the evening, “Bones” was at a steady 1.5 rating.

CW had a decent 0.7 rating for “Vampire Diaries” at 8 p.m., according to some analysts -- although down some from a week ago. “Diaries” also posted 1.65 million overall viewers. “Reign” at 9 p.m. held the same 0.4 rating it had a week ago and 1.1 million overall viewers.
