Troberman Named CMO For iHeartMedia

iHeartMedia Inc. is on a management whirl. After raiding Mediabrands for Tim Spengler a year ago, it has named Gayle Troberman, a former Mediabrands exec, as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. She reports to CEO Bob Pittman.

At IPG Mediabrands, which she left prior to the iHeartMedia offer, Troberman was chief marketing and ideas officer.

Troberman is charged with developing a marketing plan for iHeartMedia’s 859 radio stations in more than 150 markets, as well as iHeartMedia’s digital radio platform. Her focus is to fully engage its brands and platforms in users' lives.

iHeartMedia also includes Clear Channel Outdoor, one of the world’s largest outdoor advertising companies.

The new post will tap the marketing vet’s extensive experience. Prior to IPG Mediabrands, she spent 16 years at Microsoft as chief creative officer, handling the global ad campaigns for Windows, Office, Bing and Xbox.

Plus, she is credited with creating the industry’s first branded entertainment division at MSN, developing online video series.

Pittman stated that Troberman would “be able to reach across all of our companies and brands to provide fresh, out-of-the box thinking,” noting that innovative strategies would allow clients to “garner the biggest possible ROI from radio, digital, outdoor and events.”

Troberman called iHeart Media “the ultimate, live creative playground,” adding that it provides ample opportunities to “create entirely new brand experiences that excite, engage and humanize marketing.”

Troberman is the latest executive to leave Mediabrands or the agencies it comprises. Jacki Kelley, most recently CEO for North America and president of global clients for Mediabrands, left last month for the COO role at Bloomberg. Her exit came around the same time as the departure of CFO Jeff Lupinacci, Magna Global North America President Kristi Argyilan and BPN Global CEO Mauricio Sabogal.

Last week, Omnicom Media Group signed a $200 million per year deal with iHeartMedia to develop customized media programs for Omnicom’s clients using iHeartMedia’s events, sponsorship opportunities and technologies and broadcast assets.
