Fullscreen Grows Some Rooster Teeth, Acquires Austin Gamer

Fullscreen announced that it has acquired Austin-based Rooster Teeth, a digital brand best known for its long-running Web animated robot series “Red vs. Blue” and other animated gaming and comedy series.

It’s another in a series of acquisitions for Fullscreen, acquired by Otter Media, a joint venture of The Chernin Group and AT&T in April.  No purchase price was announced.

Rooster Teeth’s fan base includes the RTX -- for Rooster Teeth Expo -- a gaming convention that drew more than 30,000 attendees in its third year, according to Fullscreen.  

Rooster Teeth’s series and videos, including “Achievement Hunter,” “Immersion,” “RWBY” and “The Gauntlet” have millions of fans, many of them men in the the 18 to 34 demo. Its most popular YouTube channel has over 8 million subscribers.

As part of the agreement, Fullscreen will help Rooster Teeth develop new premium formats and accelerate its merchandising and live events business, and improve its advertising infrastructure.

Burnie Burns, the creative director, and Mat Hulum, the CEO, will continue in their roles. Reuters reported that while Rooster Teeth will remain based in Austin, it also will expand to Los Angeles.
