'Colbert Report' Gets Big Viewer Sendoff

Comedy Central’s series-ending show of “The Colbert Report” pulled in a big Nielsen 2.48 million viewers on Thursday night -- nearly double its typical daily average.

For example, for the week ending December 12, “Colbert” earned an average 1.3 million at 11:30 p.m. -- and for that week, the show earned a 0.54 rating among 18-49 viewers. For its series-ending episode, “Colbert” nearly doubled its average 18-49 results to a 1.03 rating.

“Colbert” -- whose host Stephen Colbert will take over for David Letterman as CBS’ main late-night host -- was the fourth-highest cable show in terms of total viewers.

NFL Network’s game -- featuring two underperforming 2-11 teams, the Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans -- earned 4.85 million viewers. History’s “Pawn Stars” (9:30 p.m.) was at 3.06 million; History’s “Pawn Stars” (9 p.m.) at 2.72 million; and “The Colbert Report” at 2.48 million.

Overall, CBS had the goods to pull in a network victory on the night -- in terms of 18-49 viewers (a 1.8 rating/6 share) and total viewers (8.7 million).

All CBS’ shows dominated Thursday time periods -- a repeat of “Big Bang Theory” took in 10.6 million viewers; an original episode of CBS’ “Mom” took in 10.0 million; “Two and a Half Men” was at 8.8 million; “Elementary” came in at 7.6 million; and “The McCarthys” was at 6.94 million.

    Wow! One percent of the 18-49s tuned in for Colbert's send off. That's huge----right? I wonder how many of this horde of fans will tune in for Colbert's debut on CBS----probably quite a few----and then "stick" to become every night "regular viewers-----probably not many?
