Australian Telecoms Call New Retention Rules Ineffective

Australian communications firms are challenging a new government’s plan requiring telecoms to retain user data since services based in other countries such as Gmail, Hotmail, Facebook and Skype are exempt. The Australian telecoms say that without a wider scope, the plan would be ineffective at fighting crime.
