Pinterest Hires 2 Hike Labs Execs

In a little late-week talent grab, Pinterest has hired the duo behind mobile publishing start-up Hike Labs.

Jason Shellen -- who had a hand in the creation of Blogger and Google Reader before co-founding Hike Labs, last year -- is joining Pinterest as a product manager. Mike Demers, head of engineering at Hike, is taking on an engineering role at the pin-based social network.

“I'll be starting at @Pinterest on Monday!” Shellen tweeted on Friday. “I'm joining the product team working on the discovery engine.”

Shellen cited the gifted team at Pinterest as reason enough to give up on Hike Labs. Among other bright lights, “Tim is a huge reason I'm joining,” he tweeted -- referring to Tim Kendall, head of product management at Pinterest.

Jack Chou, head of product at Pinterest, said the Hike co-founders should help accelerate the company’s discovery efforts. “Jason and Mike’s experiences in building communications, content and community tools will help us tackle significant areas in discovery,” Chou stated on Friday.

In partnership with Apple, Pinterest recently began letting users pin particular mobile apps -- effectively positioning the picture-based social network as a consumer-driven app discovery platform. Along with pinning apps, users can now discover apps on other users’ boards.

During its brief existence, Hike built a mobile-first blogging app named Drafty. With the acquihire, the app’s future appears to be fated.
