Lions Innovation Shortlist Revealed

The short list of Lions Innovation entries has been unveiled and at least three contenders have already won Grand Prix awards at this year’s festival including “Life Paint,” “Lucky Iron Fish,” and Vodafone’s “Red Light” mobile app.

Life Paint, a product designed by Grey London client Volvo, has won two Grand Prix awards so far — for Design and Promotion/Activation.  The product, designed to prevent accidents, is a spray that can be applied to clothing, bicycles and other articles, which is invisible during the day but glows brightly when exposed to automobile headlights at night.

Lucky Iron Fish won the Grand Prix for Product Design. It’s a piece of metal shaped like a fish used for cooking that was developed to address Cambodia’s iron deficiency epidemic — half the country’s population suffers from it.

The Vodafone app, which has already won the Media Lion Grand Prix, is also competing in a separate Innovation category for use of Creative Data. The app was designed to help thwart domestic violence in Turkey — it’s hidden within a flashlight app, and with a shake of the phone alerts the user’s designated contacts in the event of danger while also pinpointing the user’s location.
