Meredith Launches Weddings Group

Following the acquisition of a number of wedding and bridal properties, this week women’s interest publisher Meredith Corp. announced the launch of the new Meredith Weddings Group. The group includes Martha Stewart Weddings magazine, its Web site and the mywedding.com Web site.

Last November, Meredith assumed responsibility for business operations at Martha Stewart Weddings as part of a long-term licensing deal last year, which also gave Meredith control of the flagship magazine Martha Stewart Living.

Around the same time Meredith also acquired mywedding.com, a popular online wedding planning destination that helps users find wedding planners and venues, choose bridal designers and stylists, plan honeymoons, and so on. In addition to its interactive directories, mywedding.com publishes a range of wedding-related lifestyle content, including mywedding The Magazine, a quarterly digital magazine.

Altogether, Meredith’s wedding properties reach a combined audience of 6.4 million, according to the publisher, which touted the sites as an effective way to reaching millennial women who are planning their weddings.

As part of the new Weddings Group, Meredith said mywedding.com will now power the local search feature and wedding Web sites for marthastewartweddings.com.

According to figures from IBISWorld, the U.S. wedding industry had total revenues of $55 billion in 2014, up 1.9% from the previous year. Separate data from a survey of 16,000 brides and grooms conducted by The Knot found that the average wedding ceremony cost $31,213 in 2014, not including the honeymoon.
