JetBlue Golf Classic, Auction Benefit Youth Charities

JetBlue Airways is launching its annual Swing for Good Golf Classic and Bid for Good online charitable auction, the airline's primary fundraising campaign of the year.

Over the past seven years, the campaign has raised more than $2.1 million for a variety of charitable partners.

This year's recipients include three youth-focused non-profit organizations including Together We Rise, a new recipient. The non-profit organization is led by young adults formerly in foster care focused on transforming the way youth navigate America's foster care system.

Another beneficiary is the well-known DoSomething.org, which returns for the third time as a beneficiary. DoSomething.org empowers young people to take action in their community around a variety of causes.

Finally, the JetBlue Foundation returns for a second year as a recipient. This JetBlue-sponsored private foundation encourages and advances aviation-related education. Placing aviation top-of-mind as a career choice for students, the JetBlue Foundation's mission is to ignite interest in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) programs.

The golf classic will be held on Oct. 14 at Bethpage State Golf Course in Bethpage, N.Y. The JetBlue Bid for Good online auction lots include one-of-a-kind items and is powered by Charity Buzz. It takes place from Oct. 1-19.

Items and experiences in the auction include an internship with DoSomething.com, deluxe JetBlue Getaways vacation packages, tickets to Bonnaroo Music Festival, a trip to the Boston Red Sox training camp, a JetBlue flight simulator experience and access to VIP events and other exclusive experiences.

The annual fundraiser includes JetBlue executives, crewmembers and business partners. The campaign raises funds for charitable organizations focused on youth, education and community -- the core pillars of JetBlue's corporate social responsibility platform.

    Tanya,

As a marketing student from Arizona State, I really enjoyed reading your article and learning more about how DoSomething.Org, Together We Rise, and Jet Blue worked together to create such a unique golf outing.

I think it is empowering to see a younger demographic work together with a reputable brand name like Jet Blue to create a number of exciting and innovative ideas and opportunities for the outing. I believe this can be beneficial for Jet Blue in allowing the company to reach a wider appeal, as well as helping its brand reach new markets.

The auctions are definitely a great way in my mind to raise money for this campaign and I think the Bonaroo Music Festival auction has the most potential to reach the largest audience. I believe the Red Sox Spring Training ticket giveaway is also a great idea, but they may want to consider letting the winner choose the spring training destination they get to travel to, based on the team of their choice.

Some other suggestions I would have to make some of the auctions even more successful could be to include autographed memorbilia, vacation to an exotic destination such as a tropical island, or perhaps a luxury car as prizes for the highest bidders.

In addition, the outing may be able to help fortify its appeal and raise more money for the campaign by working together with more sponsors. They may also want to consider adding celebrities to the golf tournament, similar to many pro-ams to help draw more buzz and excitement prior to the event.
