A+E, Vice Team For New Channel: Viceland

A+E Networks and young-skewing TV news producer Vice Media have disclosed details about the new Vice TV channel, including a tentative brand name: Viceland.

A+E will rebrand its H2 channel -- a sister network to History -- into the new Viceland, which will launch early in 2016 in about 70 million homes.

The companies say the new network will feature hundreds of hours of new programming developed and produced entirely in-house by Vice.

A+E says “it will work with Vice on ad sales and sponsorships.” Vice will handle all marketing across all platforms, using its relationships with partners across mobile and digital.

The companies say Viceland will work with brand partners to “re-imagine the nature of the television commercial.” Shane Smith, co-founder/CEO of Vice, states: “We will test new and innovative monetization strategies placing Viceland at the pointy tip of the spear of the rapidly changing terrain of TV advertising.”

Vice’s content, which targets younger users, is also expanding its involvement on HBO, starting up a daily news TV show on the premium TV channel.

Film director/writer Spike Jonze, a Vice partner and creative director for the company, has been overseeing the new channel, which involves creation of TV shows as well as brand identity.
