Magna Global US Gets New Leadership

IPG Mediabrands has promoted David Cohen to president, Magna Global U.S. -- a newly created role, effective January 1, 2016. Also joining the unit in a new role is Dani Benowitz, as Director of Investment. 

Cohen's appointment comes shortly after the departure of Executive Vice President Todd Gordon, who left for TubeMogul. 

The company said Cohen would focus on developing new buying models and capabilities to better service clients including Johnson & Johnson, Coca-Cola, L’Oreal, MillerCoors and Sony, among others. He will report to Henry Tajer, global CEO, IPG Mediabrands. 

“David’s rise to oversee Magna Global U.S. is the natural, next step for a leader that has already so positively impacted our clients and network with his forward-thinking strategies and solutions,” said Tajer. “He’s now rightly positioned to bring even greater innovation across Magna’s core capabilities, working hand-in-hand with his partners at UM, Initiative, BPN, Cadreon and our other speciality units.”

Cohen, a 17-year-veteran of Interpublic Group, established UM’s digital practice in 2001 and was named global chief investment Officer, UM in 2011. He was a key architect of IPG Mediabrands’ 2014 nine-figure-deal with Facebook spanning data, custom research and premium video inventory. 

Cohen currently serves on 4A’s Media Leadership Committee and chaired 4A’s Digital marketing committee (2009-2013). He is on the advisory boards of a number of media companies including Google, Facebook and AOL. 

“I look forward to working with and across IPG Mediabrands’ clients, media partners and fellow IPG agencies -- infusing Magna’s best-in-class data, analytics, forecasting and intelligence teams/products into a number of new solutions to better serve these parties,” said Cohen.

Long-time veteran of the network Dani Benowitz has been promoted to director of investment, Magna Global U.S., also starting in January. Benowitz will lead Magna’s go-to-market proposition, working with Magna’s intelligence and forecasting teams, and with IPG Mediabrands’ agency-based investment teams at UM, Initiative and BPN. Benowitz has been in her current role as EVP, managing partner, integrated investment, UM since 2010.
