CBS Interactive, CNET Launch Online Auto Site

CBS Interactive and its tech publishing property CNET have joined forces to launch a new online automotive destination called “Roadshow,” which debuted this week in conjunction with the Detroit Auto Show.

Roadshow focuses on the growing convergence of cars and digital technology, as car makers integrate new capabilities for everything from navigation to diagnostics, security, communication, entertainment, and even self-driving vehicles.

Targeting both car buyers and enthusiasts, Roadshow offers video reviews and advice, video features like “Shootout,” pitting cars against each other, an email newsletter and millions of car listings, all optimized for mobile consumption.

CBS Interactive and CNET assembled an editorial team, including veteran auto journalists and analysts from Autoweek, Autoblog, Engadget, Winding Road and CNET itself, among others. Roadshow’s launch sponsors include Audi, GMC and Toyota.

Roadshow also partnered with Detroit Trading Company to aggregate new and used vehicle listings from dealers across the U.S.

Of course, Roadshow isn’t the only new automotive publisher out there, and the space is heating up as consumers display growing interest in new technology.

Last week, business-to-business media company Penton announced the acquisition of TU-Automotive, an events and digital information company focused on connected vehicles and the fast-growing Internet of things.

Last month, David Carey, Hearst Magazines president, revealed that Hearst plans to bring all its automotive properties under one roof, combining enthusiast titles Car and Driver and Road & Track with its Jumpstart Automotive Group online ad business to create Hearst Autos. The new group will also include Veretech, currently part of Hearst Business Media.

Motor Trend launched its OnDemand subscription video service last year, while  Time Inc. launched a new automotive site, TheDrive, targeting millennial automotive enthusiasts.

Also last year, the New York Daily News launched Daily News Autos, a digital content hub and resource for consumers in the market for a new car and auto enthusiasts.
