Management Shakeup At FCB's NY Office

FCB Garfinkel, the New York office of FCB, is getting a makeover —new management and a new name.

Lee Garfinkel, the creative agency veteran that FCB Global CEO Carter Murray brought on board in 2014 to run the office, is departing for new pursuits. The agency said he was “taking a break from the industry” to work on some personal projects, including a catalog of unpublished songs and consulting with companies outside the ad industry.

Karyn Rockwell, currently executive vice president, global account director overseeing the Mondelez business across IPG agencies FCB and The Martin Agency, will become the agency’s new NY CEO.

Her appointment is effective March 1. The agency said Garfinkel would stay on for three months to help with the transition.

With Garfinkel’s departure, the office will be renamed FCB New York.

Also joining the senior management team is Ari Halper, most recently executive creative director at Grey New York, as chief creative officer. He succeeds Eric Cosper, who had been in the agency’s CCO post since last April.

The new management troika at the agency is rounded out by Deb Freeman, who joined the New York office as chief strategy officer on February 1.

Rockwell has been splitting her time between FCB and The Martin Agency, leading the Mondelez business for both shops since March 2015. Previously, she was at co:collective, a strategy and innovation firm, where she oversaw the collaboration department and led the YouTube account.

Over the course of her career spanning agencies JWT, Leo Burnett, DDB and McCann Erickson, she has worked on brands such as Kimberly-Clark, Royal Caribbean, Coca-Cola and the U.S. Army.
