Reserve Acquires Dash, Payment Start-up

Reserve, a restaurant booking app, announced the acquisition of payments startup Dash. Dash’s founder and team will join Reserve as a part of the deal.

Dash is the latest in a string of acquisitions by Reserve, which included rival online restaurant reservation service Zurvu and payments tech company Hail in 2015.

Hail’s tech allowed Reserve users to split checks, calculate the tip and hail their servers. Other Reserve acquisitions include Set Service and talent from Boston-based restaurant start-up SpoonSpoon.

Dash will allow restaurants to incorporate point-of-sale systems into the functionality of the app.

Reserve currently serves major markets in the US, including Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington DC, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York.

According to a blog post on the company site, Reserve was also interested in Dash’s “Venue Vibes” feature, which provides real-time data on the relative busy-ness of a restaurant.

The financial terms of the deal haven’t been disclosed yet, however, Dash has raised $7 million from a number of different venture capital firms.

Reserve is backed by Uber’s Garret Camp, as well as director Jon Favreau and actor Jared Leto. The company also announced series B financing from new investor Diageo Technology Ventures, but the round is currently still open. Diageo is a beverage company that owns Johnny Walker, Crown Royal, Guinness and Smirnoff.

Reserve said the round’s cap is higher than the $15 million series A it obtained in early 2015.
