Bing Adds Quizzes To Search Experience

Bing is adding something unique to its search engine experience -- the ability to implement polls and quizzes. They are meant to bring Bing users into conversations about news and events that happen across the Web.

Those searching on Bing will soon see a graduation cap icon on the home page. Hovering over it brings up the first question about the image of the day. "We’ve seen a more than 65% increase in engagement with the cap icon than we saw with hotspots," wrote Bing Senior Editor and Manager Kristen Kennedy and Vinay Krishna, respectively.

Within the month, Bing will launch the feature. The quizzes continually evolve the home page experience and inspire searchers to learn about and explore the natural world. The quiz will serve about three questions.

Bing will score the results. When the quiz is completed, the results become shareable on social media such as Twitter and Facebook, challenging friends to try it out on their own.

With news stories, Bing users will have an option to answer polls about the issue of the day. The polls also link to other news stories that can provide research tools and background information before taking a position on the subject.

Bing also has added weekly trends quizzes in the Popular Now carousel, the strip of images at the bottom of the Bing home page. It appears each Friday. On average, more than 80% of users who start the quiz finish all seven questions, which tells Bing that users enjoy knowing what to talk about with friends, family and acquaintances
