Reebok, Nike, Adidas Unleash Mighty Women

This week, it’s good to be a woman in sports. In its latest take on the Be More Human campaign, Reebok has fired off a spot starring the humbled UFC fighter Ronda Rousey, vowing to be #PerfectNever. And on the heels of the USA Gymnastic Olympics team finalizing its five-woman roster, Nike is releasing inspirational video of Simone Biles, predicted by many to earn five of the six medals she’s likely to compete for in Rio.

Reebok says the idea behind the Rousey spot is to celebrate the “the perfection of imperfection,” and symbolizes the brand’s commitment to the way athletes constantly self-improve. Created by Venables Bell & Partners, the spot opens with a glamorous Rousey, who suffered a crushing defeat to Holly Holm last year, stripping away the glitz:

She yanks off hair extensions, false eyelashes and wipes off her lipstick to get gritty, telling the camera how failure can be a great teacher, and why she’s fine with her imperfections. (For those who love to read tea leaves, that “Perfect never gets a shot at redemption” line may be a hint that she’s planning her comeback soon.) And in a refreshing twist on makeover sweepstakes, Reebok is offering people the chance to win their very own glam-to-grit experience, complete with two tickets to UFC 205.

Besides the Biles spot, Nike is pumping out plenty of other fodder for those who worship strong women. There’s a new Unlimited video for athlete Serena Williams, who just won her 22nd Grand Slam singles title at Wimbledon, tying the record for the most ever in the Open era. And it just released the rousing Da Da Ding, from Wieden + Kennedy, part of its new high-energy “Just Do It” campaign featuring India’s fiercest, fastest women.

Adidas, parent company of Reebok, is also pumping out content about its athletes. Speed takes aggression highlights Romanian tennis phenom Simona Halep; Speed takes guts stars Brazilian volleyballer Jaqueline Carvalho and Speed takes progress stars U.S. Olympic swimmer Allison Schmitt.
