Content Analytics Firm NewsWhip Raises $6.4 M In Series A Funding

Content analytics firm NewsWhip on Tuesday announced a $6.4 million Series A funding round led by Tribal Ventures, with participation by The Associated Press, clients of Cantor Fitzgerald, The Asahi Shimbun, and existing investors including Enterprise Ireland, Matter VC, Social Starts, and AIB Seed Capital Fund. Cantor Fitzgerald served as corporate finance advisor to the company. An undisclosed amount of seed funding preceded the Series A round.

The capital will be used to develop NewsWhip’s data-driven storytelling technology for newsrooms, media, marketing, and public relations agencies. The technology is used to predict trends, identify influencers, and develop editorial strategy. It’s used to analyze millions of news stories, social media posts, and videos each hour, and delivers signals on breaking stories, pre-viral content, and emerging global trends.

The funding will also help NewsWhip grow teams based in Dublin and New York with key hires planned in product development, machine learning, commercial strategy, marketing, and sales.

In addition, the company said Conor Stanley, Founder of Tribal Ventures will join the NewsWhip Board. Jim Kennedy, SVP for strategy and enterprise development for The Associated Press and a representative of Cantor Fitzgerald will join the NewsWhip Board as observers.

Among NewsWhip’s clients are the BBC, The Washington Post Co., Edelman, and MasterCard.
