Digital Magazine Titles Grow By Over One Third

Zinio Systems, Inc. released its second biannual industry analysis, revealing growth among audited digital magazine titles, circulation and deliveries, and increased  use of rich media in digital publishing.

"While there is a lot of buzz in the publishing industry about digital magazines, little hard data has been produced until now," noted Dave Zinman, senior vice president of marketing and product development for Zinio  Systems, Inc. "The Digital Publishing Report (DPR) provides a clear and  unambiguous view into the growth of this important category through a  careful analysis of publisher statements and other industry sources."

From an analysis of all of the publisher statements audited by ABC and BPA  Worldwide, Zinio has extracted a bevy of industry trends, including:

From June to December 2004, digital magazines experienced across the board growth with a marked increase among audited digital titles, circulation and deliveries, including:

·      33.7% growth in number of titles

·      25.9% growth in circulation

·      38.4% growth in deliveries

Consumer publications have higher average digital circulation, though more business publications have gone digital,

Use of rich media in digital publications grew 188% from Q1 2004 to Q1 2005, based on the report. This dramatic growth demonstrates a growing commitment by publishers to take advantage of the capabilities inherent in digital publications.

Digital providers control the lion's share of digital magazine distribution. 85.6% of all digital circulation was executed with a digital provider rather than by the publisher using PDF.
