Zimbra Email Platform Chosen To Serve Japanese ISPs

Internet Initiative Japan, Inc. (ILJ) has selected Zimbra, Synacor’s email software and collaboration platform, to provide upgraded email services to ISP customers in Japan.

In one early deployment, IIJ will migrate 3 million mailboxes from an on-premise deployment at a major ISP to a new hosting environment.

Synacor will license Zimbra 8.8 to IIJ and provide input on cloud operations.

IIJ hopes to “meet the needs of an expanding and diverse user base,” states Masakazu Tachikui, managing executive officer, cloud division, for the company.

The Zimbra platform features contacts, calendar, tasks, instant messaging and file sharing. It also offers videoconferencing, document creation, file storage and other add-ons.
