Globix To Provide Streaming Web Video Of Democratic, Republican Conventions

  • by June 21, 2004
Media infrastructure provider Globix on Monday said it will provide Web streaming services for the upcoming Democratic and Republican National Conventions. The company was tapped by the High Definition National News Consortium. NHK-Japan Broadcasting Corp. was recently named producer of the high-definition television coverage of the conventions. Under the terms of the agreement, Globix will provide links for NHK's pool feeds of the Democratic National Convention in Boston (July 26-29) and the Republican National Convention in New York City (Aug. 30-Sept. 2). Globix encodes the pool feed from the convention floor and streams it over the Internet using a proprietary streaming technology.

Political junkies can access the un-anchored, unedited real-time video via participating online publishers and portals using a Windows Media Player. The streaming video will be delivered in high-definition, or a wide 16:9 aspect ratio.

"We are very excited to be chosen by HD-NNC as the Web provider for these important events," said Pete Stevenson, CEO-Globix, in a press statement. "We continue to see the Internet providing a valuable method of global communications for America's two major political parties."
