Jupiter and NetRatings to Resume Patent Lawsuit

Internet researchers Jupiter Media Metrix Inc. and NetRatings Inc. said on Friday they would resume a patent lawsuit that had been put on hold after the two companies agreed to merge last year, because the Federal Trade Commission has requested additional information, which delays getting the merger approved. Jupiter had sued NetRatings over a patent used for collecting data over the Internet prior to last October, when NetRatings agreed to buy Jupiter in a $71.2 million deal. NetRatings CFO Jack Lazar told Reuters he still expected the merger to go through, but that the two companies decided they had to look out for their own interests.
