Twilio Reports Q2 Revenue Gain, Increases In Units Created In Restructuring

Twilio generated total revenue of $1.04 billion in its second quarter, up 10% year-over-year.

In addition, the company reports a GAAP loss from operations of $141.8 million, down from $311.9 million in Q2 2022.

Earlier this year, Twilio announced it was restructuring into two business units, Twilio Communications and Twilio Data & Applications, each of which would contain its own sales, R&D and operational resources.

Communications -- which covers application programming interfaces and software solutions, including email, messaging and voice -- generated revenue of $913.1 million in Q2, an equivalent 10% increase YoY.

Data & Applications, which offers software products to help businesses drive personalized customer engagement, achieved revenue of $124.6 million, up 12% year-over-year.

Twilio divested its IoT business in June and its ValueFirst unit in July. These will not be included in future reports.

"We enter the second half of the year confident about our ability to generate meaningful levels of non-GAAP income from operations, and committed to our focus of driving efficient growth across our business," says Jeff Lawson, so-founder and CEO of Twilio.

Twilio had 304,000 active customer accounts as of June 30, 2023, up from  275,000 on June 30, 2022. And the company had 6,428 employees as of June 30.
