Management Makeover At Stagwell Agency Instrument


Stagwell creative agency Instrument has promoted Laurel Burton as CEO. Burton, a 10-year veteran of the agency, succeeds Kara Place who had been in the role since 2022.  

The agency has also promoted Leon Anderson, previously vice president of production to succeed Burton in her previous role as president.  

The agency elevated several other executives, including:

    Nishat Akhtar as Chief Creative Officer (formerly VP, Creative) 

  • Tessa Baston as Chief People Officer (formerly VP, People) 

  • Stephanie Lanning, SVP, Growth (formerly VP, New Business & Marketing) 

  • JD Hooge, as Creative Chair (formerly Chief Creative Officer)  

The management changes follow a productive 2023 when it executed a brand repositioning and won over 50 new accounts including Instacart, Uber, and Pinterest. It also expanded partnerships with AWS, Grammarly, and Microsoft. 

Going forward the agency said its innovation team will lead an initiative to weave emerging technology through client solutions and internal operations, devise new solutions and agency intellectual property, and steer Instrument's overall approach to artificial intelligence. 

Based in Portland, OR, the 400-person agency also has operations in Los Angeles and New York.
