OpenAI reportedly plans to announce its artificial intelligence-powered search product on Monday, a day before Google's annual I/O event, where the company is expected to introduce many AI-related products.

Moving into the next generation of search, OpenAI's search product is an extension of its ChatGPT, which pulls in detailed blocks of information from the Web.

It has been reported that this version of search will include citations and a more complete answer to queries, and will be powered by Microsoft Bing.

Some say that the AI search model will generate more human-like responses to text prompts.

On May 2, @AlphaSignalAI on X pointed to the subdomain search.chatgpt.com as an indication that OpenAI could launch a search feature sooner rather than later.

"Microsoft Bing would allegedly power the service," he wrote on X.

The URL is no longer valid. Last weekend the link briefly was re-routed to chatgpt.com, the official website where users can interact with the chatbot.

"This shouldn’t be too surprising,"  @AlphaSignalAI wrote in the X post, considering these three points:

1. OpenAI has a web crawler, GPTBot

2. ChatGPT Plus users can also use Browse with Bing to search the web

3. Microsoft Bing uses OpenAI’s GPT-4, customized for search

An earlier attempt to bring updated information in to ChatGPT, called ChatGPT plugins, was retired in April, according to an OpenAI help center post on the company's website.
