Lack of diversity in discussion about media diversity

The diversity of the attendees watching a panel about diversity at the 4 A’s media conference was compromised when seemingly about 60% of the room’s convention-goers left for a coffee break - or other activities -- after a key note address from Marc Goldstein, CEO of Group M North America. So obvious was the mass exit that a question for the panel came up in its regard -- wondering how improvements could be made in the area of diversity if few people cared enough to hang around for discussion. But one conference attendee complained this wasn’t the issue, saying the panel was short on ideas for improvements and too long on identifying the problems that have been known for sometime – that there continues to be difficulty in recruiting and retaining executives of different ethnicities. Another conference attendee said other diversity issues weren’t even addressed – and should have – that of women and gay media agency executives. xxx
