Parents Watching More Media Than The Kids

According to IMMI data, women 45-54 will watch a cumulative 1142 hours of TV, DVD's and movies in the theater in 2007. That's 47.6 days of media, while their male counterparts will consume only 40.2 days of media. In the 35-44 parental age group, females are predicted to watch 38.3 days of media, males 33.9 days.

On the other hand, teenagers ages 13-17 will spend an average of 33.4 days in front of the television, playing DVD's, and going to the movies in 2007.

Men 18-24 are projected to be the movie watching champs for the year, spending almost 3 1⁄2  round-the-clock days watching movies at home this year. Then they'll spend another 2 days watching movies in the theater. 

Based on data gathered in the Chicago, Los Angeles,  and New York metropolitan areas, Southern California men 18-24 will spend almost 4 1⁄2 days with their DVD's,  more than twice as much as the same demographic in New York.

Finally, says the report,

  • Females 35 to 44 watch the least movies at home
  • Females 45 to 54 will spend only half as much time in the movie theater as males 18 to 24
  • Males 18-24 will watch the least TV, for a cumulative 21 days in 2007
