Mag Bag: Rosenbloom Named Lad Mag Publisher

Rosenbloom Named Lad Mag Publisher

Alpha Media Group, which publishes Maxim and Blender, named Glenn Rosenbloom president on Wednesday, creating a new post where he will steer the overall sales strategy, marketing, events and client services for Alpha Media's print and online properties. His appointment is the latest in a series of major personnel changes enacted by Kent Brownridge, who led the acquisition of the titles from Dennis Publishing by the Quadrangle Capital Partners.

Rosenbloom, who most recently served as senior vice president and group publishing director at Disney's Buena Vista Magazines, has his work cut out. While still one of the most recognizable magazine brands in the world, Maxim's U.S. edition has been struggling with stagnant ad pages and readership. In 2007, its ad pages were flat at around 933, while during the second half of 2007, its newsstand sales edged down slightly, dropping 3.8% to 433,567.

Maxim's sister music publication, Blender, saw ad pages slip 5.4%, to 752. In the second half of 2007, Blender's newsstand sales fell 14% to 53,800.

In the newly created role of president, Rosenbloom will assume many of the responsibilities formerly handled by Maxim group publisher Rob Gregory, who is stepping down after four years at the post. Among other recent personnel changes, Brownridge hired Joe Levy, previously the editor of Rolling Stone, as editor in chief of Blender, and named Ben Madden, previously of Reader's Digest, its publisher. He also hired Jim Kaminsky, previously of Men's Journal, as publisher of Maxim.

McEwen to Teen Vogue

Laura McEwen has been named publisher of Conde Nast's Teen Vogue, the latest appointment in the ongoing reorganization of the Vogue family by publishing director Tom Florio. McEwen is leaving her old position as associate publisher of Vogue, where she had also served as the director for beauty advertising, a critical category for the title. At Teen Vogue, McEwen replaces Gina Sanders, who moved over to Conde's Lucky, the popular shopping magazine.

Demetres Named Design Director of CosmoGIRL!

Christine Demetres has been appointed design director for CosmoGIRL!. Previously, Demetres served as senior associate art director for Allure. She takes the reins Feb. 25.

Former Life & Style EIC Blogs on Mags

The former general manager and editor in chief of Life & Style magazine, Mark Pasetsky, is launching a blog, Coverawards.com, where he will survey and critique the covers of popular magazines and newspapers. According to Folio, which first reported the news, Pasetsky said he wants to "offer the media industry and consumers a place to converse about the hottest covers on the newsstand, as well as Web site home pages." The site is owned by Pasetsky's start-up, Tecktonik Media.
