The agreement with more than 32,000 dealers comes as they struggle to sell cars.

"As a service to car buyers in these economic times, dealers nationwide are working with Carfax to give consumers free Carfax Vehicle History Reports to help ensure they purchase a safe, reliable used car," said Carfax in a release.

Online shoppers at such sites as AutoTrader.com, cars.com and Yahoo! Autos, or at a Carfax-subscribing dealership, will receive free Carfax Reports paid for by participating dealers.
